Molly's Aroid Mix and Molly's Succulent Mix include mycorrhizae, which colonize the roots and extend their reach, improving the uptake of water and nutrients.
The main difference between Molly's Potting Mixes and traditional soil mixes sold at big-box retailers is in how each handles water drainage and general aeration. Traditional soil mixes tend to compact quickly when watered because they consist of very small particles. As a result, they retain a lot of water, which is not ideal for indoor container plants that are highly susceptible to root rot and other issues related to overwatering. Molly's Potting Mixes are designed to address the primary needs of plants growing in containers, including:
Molly's soil-free potting mixes are specifically crafted for potted plants, resisting compaction after watering and draining fast so roots are not left sitting in water, which is the leading cause of houseplant issues. They contain no commercial fertilizers or harsh chemicals, and being soil-free they do not offer the damp soil that fungus gnats prefer to lay their eggs in soil. Molly's Potting Mixes are ideal for nearly any indoor plant, including tropical/leafy plants, succulents and cacti, and orchids. If you're unsure whether our mixes are suitable for a specific plant, just reach out to us, and we'll quickly provide a recommendation.

We started veryplants because it was clear to us that traditional potting soils and mixes didn't meet the unique needs of indoor plants growing in containers. Unlike outdoor plants, indoor plants don't benefit from the natural forces that refresh the substrate and deliver nutrients, and are much more susceptible to root rot and other fungal diseases.
We knew that indoor plants deserved better. That motivation led to the development of Molly's Potting Mixes, our first line of potting mixes developed specifically for plants growing in containers.
